The grill comes in red as well and you can find it after you click on the black image as well.

Why a charcoal grill

If you are a charcoal purist then of course, there’s no question why you love charcoal grills. You cannot compare the distinct taste and flavor of charcoal grilled food  propane grilled food. With most charcoal grills, however you need to soak the briquettes with lighter fluid and then use a chimney starter to get it going. This make a lot of smoke and takes a very long time tor the coals to get hot enough to get started cooking.

What are the major benefits of a Weber kettle grill

Propane igniter: As I said before the weber performer charcoal grill gives you taste like a real charcoal grill with convenience of a propane grill. Instead of having to light any coals you just press a button, the propane ignition, the same way you would do with a propane Weber grill or any other gas grill. It is a one touch lighting system and couldn’t be easier. Weber still uses the old push button igniter instead of the battery system some of the newer grills use, but it is so easy to use that it doesn’t really matter. It helps light the coals more evenly than a chimney starter and its easier to get more even heat across all of the coals. They also take much faster to get ready with gas ignition.

Propane tanks: The propane tanks used by this performer charcoal grill are the fat green canisters that are very easy to find. you can find them in any hardware or store that sells seasonal products. They last longer than usual and are very easy to replace.

Table surface/prep area: There is a dedicated, convenient, generous size table to  be used for dishes, spices and other things you’ll need for your barbecue. It is a great table surface

Storage: It is designed to hold the bags of charcoal you will use for your grill but, you can use it for other stuff you need for your barbecue like mitts, the cover of the grill, bags, paper towels etc. If you do decide to keep your charcoal in it  it does keep it quite dry even though it is not airtight. Storing it in an indoor place may keep your charcoal totally clear of moisture and depending on where you live it may be better to use the storage bin for other accessories you may need.

Thermometer: The grill comes with a thermometer on the lid which tells you exactly when you can start cooking up the food. No more testing the coals with  hand over the coals to test the temperature level.

Assembly: Very easy with instructions that are pictorial and very clear. You will only need to buy the propane and the charcoal as everything else is included and apparently it is one of the easiest grills to assemble.

Some of the disadvantages of  the Weber Performer grill

Overall most people that purchase this grill are thrilled. Even the negative disadvantages they report about the grill are only minor inconveniences and shouldn’t make you avoid purchasing the grill just knowing exactly what you’re getting.

  • The propane tanks may be too small. If that’s your problem you can connect a larger one to the tank or you can get a propane tank refill adapter which will allow you to fill up the 1 lb containers from your 20 lb tanks.
  • The table surface is not smooth which makes it more difficult to keep clean,
  • The lid holder seems to be a bit of a pain to some people. It slides back and forth and at times can block some of your access to the grill itself.(a good answer to this is to take it off and put it on the deck or floor while grilling)
  • Not enough grilling tool hooks

All in all its a great grill and you will absolutely love it if you are a charcoal fan.
